Report on World Manufacturing Production QII 2015

11.09.2015

UNIDO Statistics presents this report on expected growth for 2015 and observed growth of the world manufacturing production for the second quarter of 2015. The quarterly growth estimates are based on the indices of industrial production. The report also contains revised growth estimates for the first quarter of 2015.

Major findings

· Global manufacturing production is expected to maintain a steady rise in 2015, despite declining trends observed in key emerging industrial economies, especially in China. However, regional conflicts, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, and financial instability in Europe may adversely affect the growth figures.

· World manufacturing output rose by a mere 2.5 per cent in the second quarter of 2015, falling from 2.9 per cent growth in the previous quarter.

· The manufacturing output of industrialized countries rose by 0.7 per cent in the second quarter of 2015.

· Developing and emerging industrial economies maintained much higher growth at 5.2 per cent in the second quarter 2015. However, this was a low performance compared to the growth figures of these countries in the recent past.

· In terms of sector-wide performance, the production of basic consumer goods rose at a higher rate in developing and emerging industrial economies due to stronger domestic demand.
