"Sri Lanka Investment Seminar" held on 28 August 2020

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo, jointly with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan, organized an online seminar titled “Investment Opportunities in Sri Lanka Export Processing Zones” on 28 August 2020.

While introducing the key macroeconomic priorities targeted by the government and strategic sectors for foreign investments, Mr. Sanjaya Mohottala, Director General of BOI expressed his wish that the webinar would contribute to setting the platform for a deeper relationship in terms of FDI between Sri Lanka and Japan.

Mr. Prasanjith Wijayatilake, Executive Director of Investment Promotion Division of BOI  introduced three Export Processing Zones (EPZs) as possible locations for Japanese investments; namely Katunayake, Mirigama and Hambantota EPZs, and also provided specific information on focus sectors including pharmaceuticals, electronics/electrical, auto components, as well as logistics. Information on fiscal incentive packages offered by BOI was also presented to the audience. 

BOI presentations were followed by the testimonials of Japanese investors in Katunayake EPZ.  Mr. Motoji Suzuki, Managing Director of Kohoku Lanka introduced their business operation of manufacturing optical communication components during COVIT-19.  Mr. Shigeki Nakagawa, Chairman of Nakagawa Corporation shared the company’s 40 years experience of producing chains and jewelry parts in Sri Lanka and referred to the high level of education, qualified workforce, good security, pleasant living environment, FTA with neighboring countries, as advantages of investing in Sri Lanka, among others.
