UNIDO ITPO Tokyo
What is ITPO Tokyo?
Message
ITPO Tokyo was established in March 1981 in accordance with an agreement concluded between UNIDO and the Government of Japan. The mission of ITPO Tokyo is to help developing countries and economies in transition in their efforts to achieve sustainable economic development. To be more concrete, we promote direct investment and technology transfers from Japan through activities including: 1) invitation of government officials from developing countries to Japan to be engaged in promotional activities for investment and technology transfer, 2) organization of investment and technology transfer seminars in different locations of Japan in close collaboration with government offices, industrial/business organizations, prefectures, chambers of commerce and industry, etc., 3) promotion of investment and technology transfer projects from introduction to conclusion stages, and assistance for project formulation in developing countries, 4) publication services such as the “UNI-World” journal, the “UNIDO Investment News” newsletter, press releases, and information dissemination through our homepage and 5) organization of workshops for investment promotion and visits to factories/companies for embassy officials in Japan.
UNIDO is supporting sustainable development in developing countries and economies in transition through technology transfer, investment promotion and capacity building. While geographically UNIDO covers the whole developing world, recently the organization has increased its focus on Africa and least developing countries in other continents. Sector wise, agro-based industries are focused areas. Environment and energy related investment and technology transfer as well as promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) make up cross sectoral important areas for the organization. Expectations are growing for Japan, which has broad experiences and technologies concerning the said target areas.
We believe that through our activities we can support sustainable development of developing countries and consequently promote and foster the international outreach of Japanese industries. Your kind understanding and cooperation is highly appreciated.
