On occasion of the visit of Mr. Shivan de Silva, Executive Director and Mr. Dhammike Basnayake, Deputy Director, Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka to Japan, ITPO Tokyo organized one-on-one business meetings for BOI with the Japanese private sector. 13 Japanese companies interested in investment opportunities in Sri Lanka met and discussed their projects with the BOI delegation.

The seminar was organized together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME), JETRO, Tanger Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA), Moroccan Agency for Investment Development (AMDI) in Tokyo on Thursday 20 December 2012. ( Total participants: 215) Besides the seminar, the Morocco mission also held several business meetings.

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo organized the "Seminar on Water Business and Management" at the Green Innovation EXPO 2012 on 14 November 2012.

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo organized a UNIDO booth on the theme of "Green Industry and Water Management" at the "Green Innovation EXPO 2012" held at Tokyo Big Sight on 14-16 November 2012. The event attracted a total of 24,532 visitors during three days, out of which 945 came to the UNIDO Booth. Delegates in charge of water management from Cambodia, Russia, Sri Lanka and Viet Nam visited Japan to participate in the event.

31 Jul.- 3 Aug. 2012 UNIDO organized a business mission to Cambodia
UNIDO ITPO Tokyo dispatched a business mission to Cambodia, 31 July - 3 Aug 2012 to study the investment climate of the country. The mission, participated by 10 Japanese companies, visited 5 different Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Phnom Penh, Bavet (Vietnamese border) and Sihanoukville (deep-sea port).

Six Japanese Green Technologies, mainly SMEs, exhibited at the UNIDO Booth, Japan Pavilion, Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development from 13-24 June 2012. During the period, the companies received 3,099 visitors and held 342 bilateral meetings (out of 18,127 visitors to the Japan Pavilion), not only from Brazil but also from all over the world, including VIPs from various participating countries. Through such meetings, participating SMEs were able to positively promote their activities.

30 May- 1 Jun. 2012 Smart Grid Exhibition 2012
UNIDO ITPO Tokyo participated in the Smart Grid 2012 exhibition with a UNIDO Booth from 30 May to 1 June 2012 at Tokyo Big Sight, in cooperation with the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, UNIDO-ICHET, the UNU Media Center, and VPEC Inc. UNIDO promoted its green industry related programmes, hydrogen technology projects by UNIDO-ICHET, the UNU's "Green Ideas from Japan", and a smart grid related innovative project by VPEC Inc. (a Japanese SME promoted under UNIDO ITPO Tokyo's technology database.) The exhibition attracted a total of 44,049 visitors over 3 days, while upwards of 300 visited UNIDO's booth and interacted with UNIDO and VPEC Inc. staff during the same period.

10 Apr. 2012 Turkey Business Meetings
UNIDO ITPO Tokyo and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK) jointly organized a 'business meetings' event on 10 April 2012 in Tokyo. From Turkey, participants to the event consisted of 11 DEIK member companies/organizations representing sectors such as automotive, construction, agro-food, recycling, legal and regulatory, as well as SMEs and regional development. In total 80 meetings were held between the Turkish participants and 40 interested Japanese companies, paving the way for future business cooperation and partnerships.

20 Jan. 2012 Banana Textile Forum: "To Design a Sustainable Society"
UNIDO ITPO Tokyo and Tama Art University (TAU) will organize the Banana Textile Forum titled "To Design a Sustainable Society" at the UNU's U Thant International Conference Hall on Friday 20 January, from 14:00 to 17:00.
At the same time, an exhibition titled "The Power of Design to Create the future of the Earth" will be held at the UNU's Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC) from 18 to 28 January, featuring various kinds of banana textile products by TAU students, and the results of TAU's studies and workshops in Africa and South East Asian countries.

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo participated in Smart Grid 2011 at Tokyo Big Sight from 15-17 June 2011, organized and cooperated by Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, with a booth promoting UNIDO projects covering mini-grids and renewable energy – such as solar, wind, hydro, hydrogen - in developing countries, aiming at the fostering of "Green Industry". The exhibition attracted 44,745 visitors, and UNIDO's booth was visited by upwards of 300 visitors, and actual bilateral discussions on UNIDO programmes were held with 95 visitors. 22 Oct. 2010 The theme for UN Day 2010 was the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to halve global poverty by 2015. UN entities in Japan gathered at the UNU HQ Building on Friday 22 October, to collectively present “UN Day 2010 – MDGs: What have we achieved, what remains to be done?” On the Day, a talk show and panel discussion highlighted ways in which the MDGs initiative has achieved meaningful progress in areas such as poverty reduction, food security and education, while also drawing attention to the significant challenges still faced. Outside, “Farmer’s Market @ UNU” offered passersby a chance to purchase agricultural goods directly from producers and obtain UN information materials, while enjoying food stands and musical performances. 16 June 2010 UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan and Japan Association of Corporate Executives in Tokyo#
On his 3rd and final day of visit to Japan, UNIDO Director-General Kandeh K. Yumkella spoke at the Foreign Correspondents' Club in Tokyo today to an audience of 50, where he presented the report "Energy for a Sustainable Future", which was prepared by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC), which Yumkella chairs. Later in the day, Director-General Yumkella joined the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai) where he addressed 100 members and spoke again on energy, technology transfer, sustainable development and poverty alleviation, carrying UNIDO’s message to the business lobby group. Director-General Yumkella also paid a visit to ITPO Tokyo and met with its Head and staff.

15 June 2010 UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella visits METI, MOE and hosts a seminar on Africa at the UNU#
On the 2nd day of his visit to Japan, Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director-General of UNIDO met separately in Tokyo with Tadahiro Matsushita, Senior Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI); Nobumori Otani, Parliamentary Secretary of the Environment at the Ministry of Environment (MOE); and Osamu Fujimura; and Senior Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

In the meetings, Director-General Yumkella discussed topics of mutual interest, such as Japan-UNIDO cooperation on environment and energy projects in developing countries, including Sub-Saharan Africa; cooperation on global environment issues, particularly on global energy access and energy efficiency targeting achievement of the MDGs, and related findings of the UN Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC) chaired by the Director-General.
Later in the day, Director-General Yumkella hosted and opened a major seminar on Africa on the subject of “Potential and Business Opportunity in Africa” at the United Nations University (UNU). The seminar attracted 350 participants from the public and private sector, as well as academia in Japan.
Director-General Yumkella delivered a keynote speech titled “Self-sustainability of African Economy from Industrial Perspective”, highlighting the need to move from basic development aid to value added assistance for Africa in order to enable the continent’s economies and peoples to experience lasting employment and growth, with a target to eradicate poverty.
African Seminar "Potential and Business Opportunity in Africa"African Seminar "Potential and Business Opportunity in Africa" Other keynote speeches were delivered by Djamel Ghrib representing the African Union, and also Mitsuya Araki, representing the International Development Journal Co., Ltd. A panel discussion, moderated by Katsumi Hirano of the IDE-JETRO, followed and provided a lively discussion and perspective on the ways to increase business opportunity in Africa. The panel was composed of the keynote speakers, and also included Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa of Uganda in Japan, also representing the African Diplomatic Corps in Japan; Yasuyuki Fujishima of Sojitz Corporation, and Kazunori Oshiyama of JICA.
A reception held by UNIDO after the seminar allowed participants to interact with Director-General Yumkella, panelists, and UNIDO officials.
14 June 2010 UNIDO Director-General, Kandeh K. Yumkella visits Sakai and Kitakyushu#
Kandeh K. Yumkella, Director-General of UNIDO, started a 3-day visit to Japan in Sakai, where he toured Sharp Corporation’s “Green Front Sakai” complex and met with Sharp management to learn about latest technologies in photovoltaic and to discuss possibilities for collaboration in developing countries.

On the same day Director-General Yumkella visited Kitakyushu, a city recognized for its advanced industrial and Eco-town complexes, and met with the Mayor Kenji Kitahashi, and other executives of the city. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UNIDO and Kitakyushu on the day targeting promotion and sharing the experience of Kitakyushu in areas of environmental technology and waste recycling services with developing countries, including Eco-town management and treatment of Persistant Organic Pollutants (POPs).
In Kitakyushu Director-General Yumkella also met with a delegation on environment technologies from Nigeria, led by Dr. Bioudun N. Olorunfemi, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment of Nigeria, taking part in one of the initial programmes covered by the agreement between Kitakyushu and UNIDO.
