Glass recycling: Efficient Glass Interlayer Separation Equipment

Glass recycling: Efficient Glass Interlayer Separation Equipment

Donico Inter Co., Ltd.

Crushing of Laminated Glass and
Sheet Glass for Resource Recycling

- Advanced Technologies to Recycle Glass -

S everal kinds of sheet glasses and laminated glasses are utilized in a variety of industries such as automobiles, buildings and photovoltaic panels. When they are no longer in use, most of them end up in landfills or are incinerated because recycling of such glasses is challenging. To realize the recycling, Donico Inter Co., Ltd. has developed a unique, unprecedented crusher; FDS650, FDS1250 and FDS1250PV. With these machines, only glass can be crushed and separated without impurities. Crushed glass can be reused in a raw material or different products, which can reduce the amount of landfill at the same time.

Major Features and Advantages

tech_db_265_1

FDS1250

I. Crushing Laminated Glass (FDS1250)

Used laminated glass or sheet glass is first crushed in the special crusher, FDS1250. The crushing process is also called “dry process.” During this process, laminated glass or sheet glass is crushed until it is in the granular state. Unlike conventional glass crushers that can ruin attached interlayer, FDS1250 crushes and removes 50 to 70% glass cullet of laminated glass without damaging the interlayer so that the glass does not contain other materials and can be reused in different products. Double glazing glass and other glasses can be treated in the almost same process.

II. Crushing photovoltaic glass (FDS1250PV)

FDS1250PV (described on the right picture) can crush the glass of photovoltaic panel into small pieces without damaging the metal parts of the cell. It can remove as much of amount of the crushed glass as possible, from the surface of the cell. It is a facility that emphasizes the purity of the glass without contamination in the glass to be collected.

III. 3R Promotion

Recycling laminated glass represents 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) promotion. FDS1250 and FDS1250PV do not only reduce landfills but also allow both glass to be reused. The machines directly contribute to saving the environment.

To date, there is no other commercial record of machines like FDS1250 and FDS1250PV in the world. The demand for these machines is expected to rise as the number of automobile recycling operation, architectures and photovoltaic panels is increasing both in developed and emerging nations. The company desires to expand their business especially in Asian countries that are currently undergoing rapid growth.

Technology Data

Conceivable applications

Our crushing equipment FDS1250 or FDS1250PV can efficiently separate laminated glass into glass and interlayer, or separate photovoltaic panel into glass and cell, for recycling.

Laminated glass is used in various products and machines such as automotive, buildings and houses. Most of the cases, used laminated glasses are either discarded or incinerated for waste disposal. Recycling of laminated glass is challenging because crushing equipment available today can only crush the laminated glass and cannot separate impurities mixed in the crushed glass.

We believe our technology can directly contribute to the recycling of used laminated glass or photovoltaic panel for reuse in various products and machines as mentioned above. We also believe that because our equipment can efficiently recycle used laminated glass or photovoltaic panel, we can save energy and used glass as valuable resource for reuse. Finally, our proposed equipment should be a promising solution for overcoming glass disposal issues in final landfill site.

Competitive advantage

Our method is roll type crushing system. The roll figures and steel material structure are very unique and special. We believe our technology is unique and one of state-of-art technologies in the world because so far there is no other commercial record of equipment like ours.

Performance

Specifications of crushing equipment FDS1250 are as follows. FDS1250PV has the same specification.

Technical maturity / Past record of introduction

Development of our equipment has completed in 2008. So far we have successfully installed 12 crushing equipment (FDS1250 and FDS1250PV) and we have been improving our sales records since 2013. We are now positively considering to expand our business outside Japan.

Conceivable risk

As the roll wears, it needs to be easy for users to adjust the roll clearance between upper roller and lower roller.
