Food Dehydrator with DDS (Dual Drying System)

Food Dehydrator with DDS (Dual Drying System)

KIHARA WORKS Co., Ltd.

Amazingly Impressing Drying Technology Developed by
KIHARA WORKS

D DS (Dual Drying System) is the name of innovative food drying technology we have independently developed and put into practical use. Two sensors are installed in a dehydrator to detect the dry-bulb temperature and wet-bulb temperature and control the relative humidity inside the dehydrator. The technology allows producing the best quality of dried foods and providing drastic energy saving effect by maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity environment for the dehydrating.

Major Features and Advantages

DDS (Dual Drying System)
・Allows outcome with vivid color and good flavor.
・Allows drastic energy saving (fuel consumption: Up to 70% lower than conventional products).
・One button operation allows full-automation to produce the best quality of dried foods regardless of the operator’s
   knowledge and experience.
・Hardly affected by outside air; allows producing uniform quality dried foods in a fixed time.
・Applicable to drying medicinal plants, which require the change of content’s nature upon the drying.

Technology Data

Possible applications

DDS (Dual Drying System) is the name of innovative food dehydrating technology we have independently developed and put into practical use. Two sensors are installed in a dehydrator to detect the dry-bulb temperature and wet-bulb temperature and control the relative humidity inside the dehydrator. The technology allows producing the best quality dried foods and providing drastic energy saving effect by maintaining the optimum temperature and humidity environment for the drying.

By drying, the storage period of agriculture, forestry and fishery products can be extended. In addition, user benefits such as reduced transportation costs due to weight reduction and higher added value due to processing can be created. Dry processing is a technology that has low initial investment costs and is easy to use even in developing countries where cold chains are not in place. By utilizing our technology, we can contribute to reducing the waste rate of agriculture, forestry and fishery products and improving income in developing countries.

Competitive advantage

  1. Product Price (except various expenses such as transportation and installation costs):
・For DDS dehydrator: Between about 1.5 and 8.0 million JPY (SM / F / FS series per unit, depends on model)
・For conventional dehydrator: Between about 1.3 and 7.8 million JPY

  2. Running Cost (reference value in Japan. Processing amount and fuel cost vary depending on model and dry matter) :
For DDS Dehydrator (SM Series): About 100 to 1,200 JPY (for electricity per drying in case of Shiitake mushroom)
・Since there is no model for comparison with the SM series, comparison is not possible
For DDS dehydrator (F/FS Series): About 1,500 to 6,000 JPY ( for kerosene per drying in case of Shiitake mushroom)
For conventional dehydrator: About 5,000 to 20,000 JPY (for kerosene per drying in case of Shiitake mushroom)

Performance

DDS has been shown to reduce fuel consumption by 70% when compared to the conventional dehydrating technology in drying shiitake mushroom.

Kerosene consumption in conventional technology 100L → in DDS technology 30L in case of using F30
(Pre-dried fresh shiitake weight 250kg, Dried shiitake weight after drying 37.5kg = Yield rate 15%, 0.8L / kg dried matter, Drying time 24H)

・Kerosene consumption in DDS dehydrator F30 23L
(Pre-dried fresh apple weight 150kg, Dried apple weight after 22.4kg = Yield rate 15%, 1.03L / kg dried matter, Drying time 20H)

Technical maturity / Past record of introduction

DDS was originally developed to dehydrate leaf tobacco and has been used for 150,000 units for about 40 years.
The SM / F / FS series has sold over 2,000 units in 10 years.
Technical training results are as follows
  2017 Kyrgyzstan,
Mozambique
  2018 Russia, Mozambique, Zambia
  2019 Russia, Thailand

・Overseas product adoption results within 10 years are as follows
Russia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Korea, China, Laos, Vietnam

DDS (Dual Drying System) has received the following awards:
・”The Energy-Efficient Machinery Award” by The Japan Machinery Federation
・”The Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Award” under the Prime Minister of Japan’s award system
・”Science and Technology Masterpiece Award” given by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
