Waste management: Waste incinerator of gasification system

KINSEI SANGYO CO.,LTD.

Eco-Friendly Waste Gasification & Incineration System for Energy
Generation

During the oil crisis in Japan, local stores were struggling to get heavy oil for their businesses. This incidence had led KINSEI SANGYO CO., Ltd. to develop an innovative system that turns waste into energy through gasification. In a traditional furnace, controlling combustion was not easy because gasification and combustion would occur in the same place. In this system, the two processes occur in different compartments so that the system has better control over energy recovery. The system turns household, industrial and medical waste into useful electricity, steam, hot water and hot wind without polluting the air. The resulted ash is also recyclable.

Major Features and Advantages

I. Perfect Combustion in Two-Compartment System

tech_db_230_3In this system, gasification and combustion occur in two different compartments. The separated compartments contribute to the efficient combustion of waste (the combustion efficiency is almost 100%, and the loss on ignition is 3% or less.) into usable energy such as electricity, steam, hot water and hot wind. Stable combustion can be achieved in the tightly sealed compartments and results in a reduction of fossil fuel use.

II. Treatable Waste

The system takes different types of waste including household papers and plastics, wood from demolition, waste from industrial production, and even biohazardous materials from medical facilities. Separation or crushing of the waste is not required. Even a large piece of waste can be processed in the system as it is. The volume of waste the system can take is 2.5 to 250m3.

III. Easy Operation & Maintenance

tech_db_230_4The operation of the system is simple. The combustion temperature is controlled automatically so that an attending staff may not be required. The labour cost is, therefore, reduced. The system is durable and can be operated continuously for 24 hours. Maintenance is also easy and low-cost.

IV. Ash

The resulted inorganic ash can be safely recycled. They are used as a material to compose cement and pavement.

V. Clean Air

The levels of emission are well below the regulation thresholds, and the exhaust smoke produced by the system is white. The levels of emission versus regulation thresholds are as follows; dioxins (0.073 ng-TEZ/Nm3 vs 5ng-TEZ/Nm3), dust (0.005g/Nm3 vs 0.15g/Nm3), NOx (102ppm vs 250ppm), SOx (0.035 Nm3/h vs K value), HCl (22mg/Nm3 vs 700mg/Nm3), CO (0.01ppm vs 100ppm).

The system contributes to the environment by producing almost 100% of energy from all sorts of waste. Since 1980, over 200 units have been distributed in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. The company also has been closely working with academia and the government to develop a system, which gasifies animal waste to generate electricity.

Technical maturity / Past record of introduction

We have started to sell the KINSEI gasification system since 1980 and we have sold over 200 units. In the past, we have delivered our products in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia.

Conceivable risk

– Permission and authorization
– Waste management
– Leading and permission of the related authorities
– Environmental compliance (air pollution)
– Distribution of counterfeit products

To overcome these conceivable risks, we will have to classify the acceptance criterion, based on Japanese results, for medical waste and specification condition for collection by cooperating with local specialists.

We have also acquired the patents for our technology in 14 countries as means of having an intellectual property protection tactic. We protect our products by setting a password protection for the control system.
