Event Report: Senegal Business and Investment Seminar (4/15) ※ Online

UNIDO ITPO Tokyo organized the “Senegal Business and Investment Seminar” online on 15 April 2021, together with the Agency of Investment promotion and Major Works of Senegal (APIX).

This event was opened by Mr. Yasunaga, Head of UNIDO ITPO Tokyo, and comprised three sessions.

In Session I, Mr. Diop of APIX firstly explained the business and investment environment of the country in addition to the role of APIX. Mr. Mara from APIX briefly explained the Special Economic Zone in Senegal. We also invited speakers from the Ministry of Agriculture (Mr. Diouf) and the Ministry of Industrial Development (Mr. Ly), who presented the national policies on industry and agriculture including new industry priorities.

In Session II, Ms. Ndiaye our advisor in Senegal introduced UNIDO ITPO Tokyo’s support services for Japanese enterprises’ activities. This was followed by three Japanese companies operating in the country who made testimonial presentations on their activities as well as the attractiveness of the market,

Finally, in the panel session moderated by Ms. Ndiaye, we invited H.E. Mr. Ciss, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal to Japan, H.E. Mr. Arai, Ambassador of Japan in Senegal, Dr. Diop, Mayor of Sandiara City, Mr. Yvetot, Representative of UNIDO Senegal and Ms. Gueye from APIX.

H.E. Mr. Arai mentioned about the the expectation of Senegal towards the Japanese private sector, including a plan to establish a SEZ dedicated to the Japanese company. H.E. Mr. Ciss stated that there are many Japanese companies who became interested in Senegal in various sectors such as Infrastructure, Health, Education and Energy. The introduction of the SEZ of Sandiara as well as their advantages were presented by Dr. Diop. He has been promoting Japanese companies’ investment in Senegal as a Mayor of Sandiara and as a Ministry Counselor of the President. Ms. Gueye explained how they facilitate Japanese private sector and Senegalese public/private sector, with mentioning the delegate programme organized by UNIDO ITPO Tokyo. Finally, Mr. Yvetot introduced the projects and activities of UNIDO in Senegal, such as PCP (Programme for Country Partnership).
