On June 8 2017, UNIDO ITPO Tokyo organized an embassy tour to visit Smart Factory Japan 2017 & 2017 “BOSAI” Industry Fair in Tokyo, in which 29 diplomats from 24 countries attended. (Organizer: The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun / Venue: Tokyo Big Sight).
The embassy programme is held annually and aims to bridge between the foreign diplomats based in Japan and the Japanese companies and their technologies. The annual event has recently been developing into an active networking platform between the exhibitors and the representatives of the participating countries, thereby allowing business opportunities to further expand.
This year, the participants visited seven exhibitors, all of which drew much interest with the Japanese high-end technologies and those of “bosai” or disaster prevention. The costs and the issues relevant to their countries’ situations were actively brought to the exhibitors’ attention by the diplomats, as they seemed to evaluate the technologies on if and how they may be applicable to their countries’ needs.
“Japan and my country share the common issue of natural disasters, unfortunately”, said Ms. Samya Slimani, First Secretary, Embassy of Algeria, who has experienced the difference of the shakes with and without the seismic isolation equipment. “There are interactions between the two countries in the anti-seismic field and training sessions for the engineers have been carried out”, adds Ms. Slimani.
“Tonga has also experienced many natural disasters. The Japanese cutting-edge technologies are a good match to what we need in my country”, commented Ambassador Tania Laumanulupe Tupou, with whom Ambassador Saúl Arana Castellón from Nicaragua shared the thoughts, as his country “has just as many volcanoes as in Japan and we hope to continue working with Japan in facing the natural disasters”.
