UN75th: Together we can build the future we want. The world needs solidarity.

UN75th: Together we can build the future we want. The world needs solidarity.

21.10.2020

The United Nations is marking its 75th anniversary at a time when the world faces an unprecedented global crisis with a severe economic and social impact. Will we emerge stronger and better equipped to work together? Or will inequalities grow further? 2020 must be a year of dialogue, where we come together to discuss our priorities as a human family, and how we can build a better future for all.

Why Now?

COVID-19 is a stark reminder of the need for solidarity and cooperation across borders, sectors and generations. Our collective response will determine how fast the world recovers, whether we achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and how well we handle pressing challenges: from the climate crisis to pandemics, inequalities, new forms of violence, and rapid changes in technology and in our population.

Global dialogue – and action – is now more urgent than ever.

UNIDO and #UN75

As the specialized agency of the United Nations for inclusive and sustainable industrial development, UNIDO has a long history of facilitating international cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships. We fully support the initiative of the Secretary-General as the United Nations turns 75 and encourage all UNIDO partners to join this unique global dialogue and help build the world that we want.

Everything we do during and after this crisis must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change and the many other global challenges we face.
– António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
